Brtonigla Italian: "Verteneglio" is a village and municipality in the north-western part of
Istria ,Croatia , 6 km southwest ofBuje ; elevation 141 m. It is located on the regional road Buje - Novigrad. Chief occupations include farming, viniculture and vegetable growing.On this location once there was the Roman settlement Ortus Niger. The place was first mentioned in
1102 . The neo-Baroque church of St. Zeno from1861 was built on the location of an older church from1480 . The preserved structures from the time of the older church are the 36-m high bell tower, the bells (from1512 ), the Baroque baptismal font from the 17th century and, located in the chapel of All Saints, the stone altar with a wooden retable and the sculptures of the Holy Virgin and saints.A large portion of the population (41,29%) claim Italian as their mother tongueFact|date=March 2007.
