Patrick Smith (born Patrick R. Santosuosso, 1966) is an airline pilot, air travel columnist and author. His weekly air travel column, "Ask the Pilot", appears every Friday in the online magazine Salon.com. The column first ran in 2002, and takes on everything from the latest urban myths to the trends and travesties of the airlines. He also pens a weekly column for the Italian newsweekly " [http://www.internazionale.it Internazionale] ".

In 2004, his columns were adapted and compiled into a book, "Ask the Pilot: Everything You Need to Know About Air Travel", [Smith, Patrick (2004): "Ask the Pilot: Everything You Need to Know About Air Travel". New York: Riverhead Books. ISBN 1594480044.] which was Amazon.com's choice for Best Travel Book of the year. As of 2008, the book has been translated into Korean, Italian and Chinese.
