The station has been named Mallin Station since 1966, after Michael Mallin, although it is usually referred to simply as Dún Laoghaire. It features two through platforms and one terminal platform. The station is served by DART services, the South Eastern Commuter line, and InterCity services to Wexford.
Unusually, the station building is located on a bridge above the platforms, in a setup similar to Leixlip Louisa Bridge railway station. The station has a ticket counter, automatic ticket machines and a small coffee shop.
The station is immediately adjacent to Dún Laoghaire Ferryport, for Stena Line services to Holyhead.
History
, when the line was extended closer to the harbour two years after the opening of the line; the delay being a result of local opposition in Kingstown.
Also called Kingstown Harbour, the new station was renamed Kingstown in 1861, renamed Dún Laoghaire in 1921 and received its present official name in 1966.
The original station building was replaced in 1854[cite web |url=http://www.irish-architecture.com/buildings_ireland/dublin/dunlaoghaire/old_station.html |title=Former Railway Station |accessdate=2007-10-31 |publisher=Archiseek] by a new structure in a neo-classical style, designed by John Skipton Mulvany.][cite book |title=Dun Laoghaire Kingstown |isbn=0905140834 |author=Peter Pearson |publisher=O'Brien Press |date=1981] This served as the station until 1971, when the current arrangement was introduced. Mulvany's building is now the "Brasserie Na Mara" restaurant,]References
