Enterprise Plc is one of the UK's leading support services companies based in Leyland in Lancashire, England. Their core markets are local authorities and utility sectors. In 2007 a management buyout backed by the 3i investment group took place and the group was removed from the London Stock Exchange. On September 21 2007 the company acquired the entire stock of Accord Plc making it the UK's leading companies providing outsourced or partnered services to both the local authority and utilities markets.

The company is led by Chairman, Owen McLoughlin, supported by Deputy Chairman Mike Hynes and Finance Director, Neil Kirkby and the managing directors of its various divisions.

Public Sector

The public sector business is focused on the delivery of local authority services through partnership, joint venture arrangements and traditional term contracts. The division is led by Martin Joyce supported by a board of regional directors covering the entire UK.

The company provides direct management and consultancy services for over 50 local authorities in:

The company operate throughout the UK with over 100 offices and depots in every region. The Head office is in Leyland in Lancashire and key offices are also located in London, Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast, Dublin and Brussels.

The company has over 50 partnerships and contracts with local authorities and other public sector clients including two separate joint ventures with Carillion for work with the Ministry of Defence on Defence Estate properties, both over 10 years in duration.

Enterprise entered into a full joint venture company with Liverpool City Council, Enterprise – Liverpool, which delivers the full range of street based and housing maintenance services throughout the city and the company has similar partnering arrangements with Manchester, Wolverhampton, Solihull and Barking and Dagenham councils.

In September 2007 the company purchased the entire stock of Accord, a major competitor in the local authority services sector which gives the company a turnover of over £1.2 billion and makes it the largest provider of direct labour type services to the local authority sector in the UK.

Utilities

Enterprise operates as a service support partner to blue chip companies such as BT, National Grid Transco, Severn Trent and Thames Water offering both direct services and consultancy. Water – Enterprise offers a wide range of services for both the clean and dirty water networks. Long term major period contracts, alliances and partnerships exist with clients including Thames Water, Severn Trent and Three Valleys Water. Work is also done with Anglian and Scottish Water companies.

Telecommunications – The company manages small customer provision and repair works, through to extensive network renewal and investment schemes. Enterprise has been working as a major partner with BT since 1964 and has won BT supplier of the year award on numerous occasions. Since the formation of Openreach to manage BT's network, Enterprise has maintained their contractual relationship. As part of this relationship the company has developed bespoke ERP system to handle e-business, remote working, order management and commercial transactions.

Electricity – The company's experience in the wider utilities market has allowed them to develop network maintenance services throughout the electricity distribution industry working for most of the major power services companies.

Gas – National Grid Transco partners with Enterprise for mains and service replacements. In addition, the company undertakes customer service connections work for Fulcrum Connections and carried out network maintenance for Bord Gais in Ireland.

Following the acquisition of Subterra, from Thames Water, Enterprise are also leaders in the field of "no dig technology" for the utilities sector, a technique used to great effect in historic and environmentally sensitive locations plus locations such as the London Underground and Heathrow airport.

Other

Through the acquisition of Accord Plc, the company gained the rights to run the Uni-link bus services under contract to the University of Southampton. The bus company was renamed to Enterprise (bus company). However, the company recently lost the contract to Bluestar who will operate it from September 2008.
