- Bourda
The Bourda is a
cricket ground in Georgetown,Guyana , used by theGuyanese cricket team for matches with other nations in theCaribbean as well as some Test matches involving the West Indies. Located in Bourda in Georgetown, Guyana, between Regent Street and North Road, it is home to theGeorgetown Cricket Club (GCC). The ground is extremely pretty and reminiscent of old baseball stadiums, due to itscantilever stands. The Ladies stand is as fascinating, but the more modern, such as the Rohan Kanhai stand, blend in well. The liveliest part of the ground with the ubiquitous music and DJs is at The Mound, an unprotected area. The ground is nicknamed "The Cornerstone".While the crowd are passionate about their cricket, they are also among the most volatile, with mini riots and pitch invasions not uncommon. The worst incident was in 1979 during a
World Series Cricket SuperTest when the pavilion was ransacked and players hid in the changing rooms wearing their helmets for added protection. It has hosted 30 Test matches and 10
One Day International . Four of the last five Tests at the ground have ended in draws, [ [http://statserver.cricket.org/guru?sdb=ground;groundid=169;class=testground;filter=basic;team1=0;team2=0;notteam=0;decade=0;homeaway=0;month=0;season=0;startdefault=1930-02-21;start=1930-02-21;enddefault=2005-04-04;end=2005-04-04;tourneyid=0;finals=0;daynight=0;toss=0;scheduledovers=0;scheduleddays=0;result=0;followon=0;recent=;viewtype=list;innings=0;runslow=;runshigh=;wicketslow=;wicketshigh=;ballslow=;ballshigh=;bpo=0;overslow=;overshigh=;event=0;submit=1;.cgifields=viewtype Cricinfo Stats Guru filter for Bourda] , retrieved16 March 2006 ] possibly due to rainy weather, as matches are often scheduled during Guyana's rainy period.
