Tarlupadu

Tarlupadu is a mandal headquarters in Prakasam District in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh; previously, it was a taluk headquarters. It has over 6,000 inhabitants. Historic buildings constructed by the British during their rule of India still adorn the landscape. The name Tarlupadu comes from "Tarali Paadu" which means "move and sing." During British rule, it was also called "Chinna Guntur" which means smaller Guntur. Several educational facilities are based in Tarlupadu. It has six elementary schools, two high schools, a junior college, as well as one teacher’s college (offering Bachelors degree in Education) which serves students from all over the state. The main source of income for the people in this area is agriculture. The main crops raised here are tobacco, cotton and other crops which need abundant rainfall.
