Phyllis Reynolds Naylor .The title is a parody of the classical book Alice in Wonderland. It starts with Alice telling the reader about how Lester, her brother, is always lying to her. One day, Lester says that instead of being Scots-Irish, they were actually Russian. Lester tells Alice that Alice's real name is Alicia Katerina de Balencia Blunderbuss Makinoli. Alice believes Lester, but the next day at school, Alice's best friend, Rosalind, sees the name. Rosalind doesn't believe that the name is real and goes to the dictionary. She finds out that the name blunderbuss actually is a word and means "a person who goofs up."Alice also tells about doing lots of embarrassing things such as sneezing beans and franks over her friend, Megan Beachy, and also letting a boy see her in her underwear. She also tells about her fourth-grade teacher, Mr. Dooley. In the next chapter, Phone Calls, a girl keeps on calling her brother. The girl calls everyday but when someone picks up the phone, she never talks. She only talks when Lester answers. Alice thinks the girl is Lester's girlfriend but instead, she finds out it's only a friend named Mickey Dooley. A few days later, a girl calls Alice's house again and Alice answers the phone. She thinks it's Mickey, but instead, it's another girl named Lisa Shane. Alice says some rude things to Lisa, since she thinks it's Mickey, but when Lester gets home, he gets very mad at Alice and tells her it's not Mickey. ALice falls madly in love with mickey in the end.
