Chittagong Government High School is a secondary school in Chittagong city, in south-eastern Bangladesh. It is located in College road, beside Chittagong College. This school is nationally famous in Bangladesh and one of the oldest and best schools in Chittagong Division.

Contents

History

It was established in 1906 as Chittagong Modern English (M.E.) School. The school was converted into a Government school in 1917. In 1963, the school's name was again changed to Chittagong Junior Government High School. The school was renamed to its current name in 1977 and since then it has become a centre of Secondary Education in Chittagong City. In 2006, the school celebrated its centennial.

Students of Chittagong Government High School take part in three public examinations: Secondary School Certificate Examination-SSC, Junior School Certificate Examination-JSC (Formerly, Junior Scholarship Examination) and Primary Shikkha Shomaponi Examination (Previously, Primary Scholarship Examination).

The school's best results came in 1995 when 39 of its 50 aspirants secured Junior Scholarship and in 1999 when 14 students were placed in the top 20 for Science and Commerce.

Extra-curricular activities

These include Inter School Debate Championships, Recitation Contests, Inter School Cricket Tournaments, Inter School Football Tournaments, Math Olympiad, and a Science Fair.

Chittagong Government High School is the best school in debating in Chittagong City. It has conquered Drishty Inter School Debate Contest six times in 1993, 1994, 1995, 2002, 2008 [1] and 2009 [2].
