Tournament notes
The
1974 ACC tournament final pitted arguably the two best teams in the country in NC State and Maryland. [Bill Free - [http://umterps.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/022199aab.html This Overtime Lasts 25 Years] The 1974 team left it all out on the floor. Baltimore Sun, hosted at University of Maryland Terrapins athletic site, February 20, 1999] This would be cited as a reason to expand the tournament for the next year. The UCLA - North Carolina State semi final game made USA Today's list of the greatest NCAA tournament games of all time at #13. [Mike Douchant - [http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/basketball/men/02tourney/greatest-games.htm Greatest 63 games in NCAA Tournament history] .
