Biography

Marc Johnson is one of the pioneers of 1990's style "switch-stance" and "gnar-tech" street skateboarding and is known for his technical skill on a skateboard, including a "supernatural" level of ambidextrousness. Originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he drove across country to California at 17, and was sponsored by Maple shortly thereafter. After realizing that Maple would only take him so far in his career, he joined the A-Team after receiving an offer from skateboarding phenom Rodney Mullen. After a few disenchanted years on A-Team, he and his teammates quit because of the feeling of skating for an engineered team that was a marketing ploy.

Marc then went on to form Enjoi with Rodney and sponsored friends and fellow pro skaters like Jerry Hsu and Louie Barletta to fill the team. After skating for Enjoi for a few years, Marc was more involved with being the "creative director" than actually skating. Needing a change of pace, he left Enjoi and joined Chocolate. Shortly after, he joined Lakai. Marc lived somewhat reclusively in the mountains of Big Bear, California until in the late 2000s when he decided to move to Marina del Ray, CA. He moved to help keep him away from isolation and an alternative lifestyle from his former identity that corresponded with his alcoholism. Marc has one son.[1]

Marc Johnson is one of the few athletes who can manage "Jordanesque" talent while actively indulging a nicotine addiction. He is a former alcoholic and has been sober since September 18, 2009.[2] Marc is one of the most talented skateboarders actively riding, and he is arguably among the ten best skateboarders of all time. Marc won Thrasher Magazine's 2007 Skater of the Year[3] for his three-part segment in the 2007 Lakai video, Fully Flared.
