The Socotra Sparrow ("Passer insularis") is found on the islands of Socotra and Abd al Kuri in the Indian Ocean, off the Horn of Africa. It likes dry areas and towns.

Some authorities have lumped "Passer motitensis", "P. rufocinctus" and "P. insularis" into "P. motitensis" following Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993).
