Bhadrak is a city and a municipality in Bhadrak district in the state of Orissa, India.

Geography

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Bhadrak had a population of 92,397. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Bhadrak has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 57% of males and 43% of females literate. 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Culture

Bhadrak is famous for its Kali Puja held at "Charampa". Temple of this goddess, known as "Bhadrakali", is located about 10 km from Bhadrak, and that of lord Akhandalamani is about 40 km away from Bhadrak.

Education

The institutions of this areas are "BIET" (Engg College), Bhadrak Autonomous College, BDK High school, B.M.Bagurai High School and N.C. High School.

Politics

Current MLA from Bhadrak Assembly Constituency is Naren Pallai of INC, who won the seat in State elections of 2004. Previous MLAs from this seat were Biren Palei of INC who won this seat in 2000, Prafulla Samal of JD who won in 1995 and in 1990, Jugal Kishore Pattanayak who won in 1985 representing INC and in 1980 representing INC(I), and Ratnakar Mohanty of JNP in 1977.
