comprehensive school situated on Norwood,Beverley ,East Riding of Yorkshire ,England . It was founded in the year 1908 and remains open to this day.The High School has close links with the all boys
Beverley Grammar School , and has a jointsixth form with the Grammar. The High School is a state comprehensive and has an intake of only girls, apart from the joint 6th. The current Head Teacher is Mrs. Vincent. Recently the school had a new art and teaching block built, adding to the current capacity for teaching. The school is a high achieving establishment, with its GCSE results much above the national average and is the top school in the area for girls, even outperforming boys-only schools, and some private schools.
Key Stage 3
The school encompasses three distinct stages.
One of these is
Key Stage 3 , which is taught in years 7, 8 and 9 involving pupils aged between 11 and 14. At the end of this 3-year period, the majority of pupils sit KS3 SATs. The school is known for ranking highly in these tests, and great importance is placed on them.At the end of Key Stage 3 (also referred to as KS3) pupils choose options for the GCSE exams they wish to sit. Some subjects are obligatory; for example, pupils must study one technological subject. However, a degree of choice is introduced.
Key Stage 4
The second stage in the education provided by the school is given to pupils aged 14 - 16, in years 10 and 11, also known as
Key Stage 4 . During this time, privileges enjoyed by the pupils are increased, with some pupils permitted to leave school during lunchtimes. At the end of this time, or possible during it, depending on which subjects were chosen to study by the pupil, pupils sit their GCSEs. Success in these exams can determine whether a pupil is permitted to continue in the school and join the 6th form or not.6th Form
This is the final stage in the pupil's education provided by Beverley High School, before they leave school and possibly go on to attend a
university orcollege , whether local or not, or seekemployment .The VIth form is joint with
Beverley Grammar School and is mixed with pupils splitting their time between the High and Grammar schools. The VIth form also welcomes pupils who have previously attended other schools. During pupil's time in the 'Joint Sixth', as it is known locally, they sit both AS and A2 exams.External links
