events2 = Station reopens| Alness railway station is arailway station , on theFar North Line , serving the village ofAlness , on theCromarty Firth , in the Highland council area ofScotland . The station consists of one platform on the northern side of the railway, with only a small shelter available. The original station platforms can still be seen on both sides of the single line through the station.The station is 46 km (28½ miles) north of Inverness on the Far North Line towards Wick.
History
Opened by the
Inverness and Ross-shire Railway , it became part of theLondon, Midland and Scottish Railway during the Grouping of 1923. The line then passed on to theScottish Region of British Railways onnationalisation in 1948. It was then closed by theBritish Transport Commission , and remained so for 13 years. The station reopened in 1973, and then when Sectorisation was introduced in the 1980's was served byScotRail until the Privatisation of British Railways.ervice
Monday to Saturdays there is generally a two-hourly service southbound to Inverness with three trains per day northbound to Wick.
Sundays there are usually two trains per day in each direction.
