"AllNight with Jason Smith" is a syndicated sports talk radio show on ESPN Radio, hosted by Jason Smith. The show is heard Monday through Friday from 10pm PT to 2am PT live from Los Angeles, California, rather than the ESPN Headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut. Smith was named host of the show on September 19, 2005, after former host Todd Wright left after almost eight years on the show.

The "ESPN Radio SportsCenter" update anchor is Jay Reynolds on most shows. Reynolds is probably more involved in the show than most of the other "ESPN Radio SportsCenter" anchors, as he assists with phone calls, the "AllNight Hollywood Quiz" and the "Around the Dial" segments. Regular fill-in guest hosts for the show are Bob Valvano and Amy Lawrence. Smith himself is also a regular fill-in host for Colin Cowherd on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" and John Seibel on "SportsNation", all of which are also on ESPN Radio. Pernell Brown is the current Producer of the show. Brown previously was a Producer on "The V Show."

Design

Smith is joined every night by ESPN insiders such as Mel Kiper Jr., John Clayton, Jayson Stark, Marc Stein, Mark May and Doug Gottlieb, all on "The OnStar Hotline". Although most guests on All Night appear via the OnStar hotline; one regular guest, former Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins defensive tackle Brandon Noble, is an exception to the rule. Anytime Noble is a guest (with the exception of when either Valvano or Lawrence is subbing for Smith), Smith would dial Noble on the telephone only to get a "call intercept" message followed by Smith identifying himself as an NFL player or coach making headlines that day. Noble appears via OnStar hotline anytime there is a substitute host for Smith.

egments

*Around The Dial is a recap of the top games of the night, with highlights and sound bites. Smith presents this segment once every hour, with assistance from Reynolds.
*Cooler Knowledge is a short segment that details the three things that you could use to impress your friends around the water cooler at work. It usually deals with little trivia that pertains to the previous night's games.

Past Segments

*AllNight Hollywood Quiz is a set of four entertainment questions posed to callers. The caller who answers the most right wins a six-month subscription to "ESPN The Magazine".
*You Make The Call allows callers to play the role of manager or GM.
*The Vent is when Smith allows callers to vent their frustrations on-air about a popular sports story.
*Hot List is a four-minute segment at the start of every hour. Smith lists the top three stories of the night, including sound bites.
*Five Things is a segment at the very end of the show, during the 5 am ET hour. Smith lists the five most important things his listeners have learned over the course of the show.
*Football On the Fours is a segment that talks about any football story and it can happen at :04, :14, :24, :34, :44, :54 on the hour. It usually happens at :04, :24, and :44 because that is when they are just getting back from the commercial break, but it is on at the other two possible times once or twice a night.
*AllNight Interrogation, Jason asks a caller 3 personal questions. If his "judge" thinks the caller answered it truthfully, they get to ask Jason a personal question of their own (the question must be screened before it is asked on the air).

Also, during the past NBA and MLB seasons, the listeners have chosen "AllNight Teams". The first NBA team was the Golden State Warriors and the MLB team chosen recently was the Toronto Blue Jays. On an interesting note, after becoming the AllNight team, the Jays hit a slump, and the Warriors didn't do well after they were chosen. This has brought about the idea of the AllNight curse, similar to that of the Madden curse. Currently, as of November 2006, the new AllNight NBA Team is the Los Angeles Clippers and they too have not performed too well this season while the Warriors would go on to defeat the Dallas Mavericks in the First Round of the NBA Playoffs.

New Direction

Recently AllNight has done away with a lot of "Production" such as as Football on the Fours, Who Said That?, the Vent Segment, Four Score and Several Years Ago, and the Hotlist. Around The Dial still airs at 2:40 am ET, but the rest of the show focuses on the major topics of the day with Jason's chatter & occasional guests.
