Ansonia High School is a public four-year high school located in Ansonia, Connecticut. It has approximately 683 students in grades 9 through 12. About 71.2 percent of the student body is Caucasian; 28.8 percent is minority. The school is accredited by the New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and the Connecticut State Department of Education.

Ansonia High School was originally located on the west side of the Naugatuck River. It was relocated to the east side, where a new building opened in 1999. The previous building became the new Ansonia Middle School.

The school year contains two semesters and four marking periods. The minimum passing grade for the school is a 60.

There are 79 employees in the school. The staff has an average of 13.9 years of experience. 80 percent have a master's degree and 42 percent trained for the Beginning Educator Support and Training (BEST) program as mentors, assessors, or cooperating teachers.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate from the Ansonia High School, a student needs four credits in English, three in social studies (including history), two credits in science, three credits in math, one credit in a vocational education or art, one credit in physical education, a half credit in computer applications, and a half credit in health.

Sports

Ansonia competes in the Naugatuck Valley League. The Ansonia High School football team has won sixteen state championships ('76, '77, '79, '81-'84, '87-'89, '94, '95, '02, '03,'06, '07), in total appearing in a state record 22 state final games. The Chargers are one of the most consistently successful football programs in state history, ranking 1 or 2 in winning percentage by decade the last three decades running. They won their most recent championship on December 1, 2007, by defeating New London 35-0. Ansonia is coached by Tom Brockett, who, in his first two years, has led them to undefeated seasons, winning not only Class S state championships, but also NVL titles. Ansonia High School is now ranked #1 in the state.

The football team has also won the Walter Camp Football Foundation's Joseph W. Kelly Trophy — awarded to Connecticut's top football team — in '83, '89, '05, '06, and '07. In the mid-1970s, the high school adopted the "Chargers" as its mascot.
