Ethnic issues in Finland

Ethnic issues in Finland

Finland is one of the most ethnically countries in Europe, where immigrants constitute a small part of Finnish society. Prior to the 1990s, it was very difficult to immigrate into Finland, and immigration from outside of Europe proper was virtually unheard of.

The native languages of Finland are Finnish, Swedish, Skolt Sami, Inari Sami, North Sami, Tatar and Romany. Immigrants to Finland tend to speak English, Estonian, Russian, Arabic, Somali, etc.
