Fun 100 were a Canadian indie rock band from Abbotsford, British Columbia. They formed on the first day of the year 2000. They now mostly play in and around Vancouver, and have gone on two tours across Canada.

The band's name came from a roll of stickers that said FUN 100 on them. Since they already had the stickers, they decided to go with the name for their band.

Fun 100 broke up after playing a few shows scheduled in 2007, including one with Polysics. [http://fun-100.com/news/index.htm]

Influences

Fun 100's songs often feature references to early 1990s pop culture, with subjects from Michael Moore's film "Roger & Me", television programs like "Full House", to family films including "The Mighty Ducks" and "Home Alone 2". Other influences and inspirations include the 1993/94 Vancouver Canucks, 1910 Fruitgum Company, Devo, the Pointed Sticks, Gary Numan, Japanese Pop Music, moog records from thrift stores and C.H.U.D.

Charts, awards, and coverage

Fun 100 frequents college charts in Canada, as well as spending time in the top 50 on both major Canadian campus radio charts, "Chart" (reached #21 in December 2005) [http://www.chartattack.com/charts/college/old50/nov2005/18.txt] and "Earshot" (#46 in November 2005) [http://www.earshot-online.com/charts/2005/December/top200.html] .

Fun 100 has been featured in articles in several music publications including "Terminal City" [http://www.terminalcity.ca/content/view/1278/139/] and "Discorder" as well as CBC Radio 3's regular broadcast, website, podcast and satellite radio show. Positive reviews of the band have appeared in "Vice Magazine", "Maximum Rock n Roll", "HeartattaCk", and "the Nerve".

Fun 100's song "Computer" has been ranked as the 65th best song of 2005 by CBC Radio 3 [http://radio3.cbc.ca/blogs/2006/1/CBC-Radio-3s-Top-94-Picks-for-2005] . The band has since received much criticism for neglecting to play it live. In response, the band has simply claimed that they no longer like the song.

Break-up

Fun 100 played their final show on February 3, 2007 at Mount Pleasant Community Centre. Other bands featured were Sudden Infant Dance Syndrome, the Doers, and the Badamps. As Fun 100 prepared to take the stage, police responded to several noise complaints and a head injury incident and told the organizers to shut down the show. This compounded with equipment problems, and there was some doubt that Fun 100 would even play a single song. The audience, seemingly unable to wait any longer, started to sing the vocals without any instruction. Fun 100 played a four-song set, starting with the audience singing solo, then ending with the power being cut and an extended drum finale to "Hot Popular Girl".

Band members in other projects

Several members have or are in other musical projects. Steve Matheson was a member of The.WPP, Target, Burden and The Seams and currently plays in Ghost House with Jesse Gander (formerly of d.b.s.). Marc Boucher was the mind behind Andrew Squared as well as a back-up vocalist for the contemporary alternative pop band Manoah. Bruce Dyck was the original drummer of You Say Party! We Say Die! and has put in time with Raised by Wolves, The Temper Tantrums, and others, while Adam Fothergill is in the two-piece Title Shot with Jonny Hughes of Cran, STICKS, and The Hand, as well as L'ananas, which also features Jason Nicholas, formerly of You Say Party! We Say Die! Adam has also played with You Say Party! We Say Die! and Raised by Wolves on occasion.
