nihongo|Fukuroi|袋井市|Fukuroi-shi is a city located in Shizuoka, Japan. On April 1, 2005, the city merged with the town of Asaba from Iwata District.

History

*Former city of Fukuroi
**1889 — founded as the town of Yamana
**1909 — the town was renamed to Fukuori
**1928 — merged with the village of Kasai from Iwata District
**1948 — merged with the village of Kudonishi from Shuchi District
**1952 — merged with the village of Kudo from Iwata District
**1954 — merged with the village of Imai from Iwata District
**1955 — The village of Ugari and the town of Yamanashi merged to form the town of Yamanashi in Shuchi District. Fukuroi merged with the town of Mikawa from Iwata District.
**1956 — merged with the village of Tahara from Iwata District (Niike, Matsufukuroi, and parts of Hikojima) and the village of Kasahara from Ogasa District(Okazaki and parts of Yamazaki)
**November 3, 1958 — gained city status
**1963 — merged with the town of Yamanashi from Shuchi District
**2002 — Fukuroi played host to some fixtures during the 2002 FIFA World Cup (Shizuoka Stadium).
*Former town of Asaba from Iwata District
**1955 — The village of Higashiasaba, Nishiasaba, Kamiasaba, and Sachiura merged to form the village of Asaba.
**1956 — gained town status
*April 1, 2005 — The city of Fukuroi and the village of Asaba merged to form the city of Fukuroi.
