- Sexual sublimation
Sexual sublimation, also known as sexual transmutation, is the attempt among some religious traditions to transform sexual energy into creativity, thereby facilitating a mystical awakening.
In
psychology , sublimation is thetransference of sexual energy, orlibido , into a physical act or a different emotion in order to avoid confrontation with the sexual urge. It is based on the belief that sexual energy, the creative function of the human being, can be used to create a spiritual nature instead of being let out in hopes of creating physically or sensually. cite web|last=Swami Sivananda Saraswati|authorlink=Swami Sivananda Saraswati|title=Brahmacharya (Celibacy)|url=http://www.sivanandadlshq.org/teachings/brahmacharya.htm|accessdate=2006-07-27] [cite web|last=Samael Aun Weor|authorlink=Samael Aun Weor|title=The Transmutation of Sexual Energy|url=http://www.gnosticteachings.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=143&Itemid=43|accessdate=2006-07-27] [ cite web|last=Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami|authorlink=Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami|title=Cognizantability: Section 2, The Basic Laws of Transmutation|url=http://www.himalayanacademy.com/resources/books/mws/mws_cgz_sect-02.html|accessdate=2006-07-27]The term itself means to transform the crude sexual energy into a carrier of spiritual essence.
