David Teague (basketball)

David Teague (born June 4, 1983 in Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American professional basketball player. He played collegiately at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in the NCAA and in high school at Pike High School in Indianapolis.

David is the cousin of Atlanta Hawks point guard, Jeff Teague.

High school career

David Teague attended Pike High School, where he played along with former Notre Dame basketball star player, Chris Thomas. David led the Red Devils in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game. His cousin, Jeff Teague, who also played for Pike, played at Wake Forest and currently plays for the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA. His other cousin, Marquis Teague, is one of the top basketball players in the class of 2011 and will play at the University of Kentucky in the fall of 2011.

College career

After graduating high school, he attended Bridgeton Academy Prep in Maine for a short time before transferring to Purdue University, although he was considering Southern Illinois (who at the time was head coached by his soon to be Purdue head coach, Matt Painter, before Gene Keady recruited him). As a freshman, the 6'5" and 196 lb. guard led the Boilermakers in three point percentage and set the school Freshmen record for three-pointers made in a season (surpassed by E'Twaun Moore, who currently has the record with 66).

2005–06

Teague played his first 3 seasons under Gene Keady. After Keady decided to retire, a former player, Matt Painter, took over as head coach in his place. Early in the 2005–06 season, Teague tore an ACL during practice, and later decided that the best thing to do was to return for a fifth season at full health. For the 2005–06 season, without Teague or teammate Carl Landry out with injuries, the Boilermakers struggled, finishing with a 9–19 season.

2006–07

After Teague was back in complete health, he returned to the team as a redshirt senior. He averaged 14.1 points per game (17+ points per game in Big Ten Conference play), 4.8 rebounds (2nd on team) and 2.1 assists per game. His return helped lead Purdue to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, eventually losing to NCAA champions, Florida. He recorded his career-high 32 points against Indiana on February 15, 2007.^[1] Teague was named Second Team All Big Ten his senior year.

College notes

Seen as a threat beyond the 3-point line as a spot shooter, he also had a high percentage off-the-dribble jump shot. On the defensive end, Teague was usually matched up with the opposing team's higher profile players. He is third in school history with 239 three-point field goals, behind only E'Twaun Moore (243) and Jaraan Cornell (242).

Professional career

Teague signed a contract with AEL 1964 GS in the summer of 2007. He competed with AEL 1964 GS in the Greek league during the 2007–08 season. After one season playing in Greece, Teague played in the Orlando Pro Summer League, playing for his hometown team, the Indiana Pacers. He played the 2008–09 season for JA Vichy in the French league. He joined the Giessen 46ers of the German league for the 2009–10 season. In December 2010, he signed to play with Flamengo of the major Brazilian basketball league.
