Edenglassie

Edenglassie

Edenglassie was the former name for the city of Brisbane, Australia. The name was bestowed by Chief Justice Forbes.cite book |year=1980 |title=Seeing South-East Queensland |edition=2 |pages=7 |publisher=RACQ |isbn=0-909518-07-6] It was formed as a portmanteau of the two Scottish cities Edinburgh and Glasgow. The name soon fell out of favour with many residents and the current name in honour of Governor Thomas Brisbane was adopted instead.

Until 1859, when Queensland was separated from the state of New South Wales, Moreton Bay was used to describe the new settlement and surrounding areas.
