Almost all of WONE's locally-based daytime lineup is now simulcast from Cincinnati sister station WCKY 1530-AM; in fact, the "Homer" nickname and imaging is the same as WCKY's. The station's programming is also carried onWIZE 1340 in Springfield.History
The station took the air in
1949 , licensed to Skyland Broadcasting Corp. It was sold in1961 toBrush-Moore Newspapers , publisher of the Canton Repository. In1965 the station was sold to Group One Broadcasting of Akron, owner ofWAKR . During the late 1960s WONE was known as "Channel 98," and it was one of Dayton's two popularTop 40 stations, the other beingWING . The format changed to adult contemporary around1967 , when it was called "Charisma Radio". Sometime thereafter, around 1969 it switched tocountry music calling itself "Country-Wide W-1" to remain synonymous with its then-owner Group One.On September 8, 1986, Group One was dissolved, and the station was sold to DKM Broadcasting. (One year beforehand, Group One obtained permission to place the WONE call sign on WAKR's FM sister station in Akron.) WONE's ownership passed to Stoner Broadcasting on
December 9 ,1992 , to American Radio Systems onSeptember 13 ,1993 , and to Jacor Communications onOctober 17 ,1997 .After a stint as a
country music station, WONE changed from "98 Country" to Adult Standards, Dayton's ONE for Original Hits, onNovember 29 ,1994 and acquired Springfield-based former Top 40 giantWIZE along the way (which at the time also aired adult standards). WIZE ever since has virtually simulcast all of WONE's programming. WONE/WIZE adopted its present sports talk format onDecember 8 ,2003 , (as "980 Sports ONE") again competing with WING, then adopted the "Homer" nickname and weekday programming associated withWSAI 1360-AM (now on WCKY 1530-AM) in 2005. They have dropped the simulcast of 1530 WCKY and now run some local shows. The local shows are Sportstalk 980 weekdays at 5:00 p.m. and the Outdoor Connection which airs on Sunday Nights. The station now is also an affiliate for the Dan Patrick Show, the show airs from 9AM-12 PM weekdays.Programming
