Founded in 1996, CCRSB has four different groupings of schools formed along county lines: Celtic, Nova, Cobequid, and Chignecto.
The Celtic Family encompasses schools in Pictou County, of which there are fourteen elementary schools, six middle/junior, and three high schools. The Chignecto Family encompasses schools in Cumberland County, of which there are sixteen elementary schools, one junior high school, and seven high schools. The Cobequid Family encompasses schools in central and northern Colchester County, of which there are sixteen elementary schools, four middle/junior, and two high schools. The Nova Family encompasses schools in the Municipality of East Hants and southern Colchester County, of which there are fourteen elementary schools, one middle school, and three high schools.
