April 17 ,2006 , but has yet to open to traffic. When the approach roads are finished in early2009 , the bridge will carryUS 82 (and, until theCharles W. Dean Bridge is built,US 278 ) across the river betweenLake Village, Arkansas andGreenville, Mississippi . While the river is the commonly accepted state line, the official line lies on the east bank due to the river having shifted slightly westward since the boundary was set. Because of this, the Greenville Bridge is technically located entirely in Arkansas.Construction
HNTB Corp. of
Kansas City, MO ., was the designer and consulting engineer for both the new bridge as well as theBenjamin G. Humphreys Bridge . Massman Construction Co. and Traylor Bros. Inc., a were awarded an $110,826,530.00 contract by the Mississippi Department of Transportation in July 2001 for construction of the Greenville Bridge with a Notice to Proceed onAugust 9 ,2001 . The construction on the span of the bridge was finished onApril 22 ,2006 .Austin Bridge and Road is currently working on the substructure of the Arkansas approaches to the bridge which should be completed by November 2008. Jensen Construction [cite web|url=http://jensenconst.com/Proj_Pages/MS_US82.htm|title=JCCO Greenville ] was working on the road deck of the Mississippi approaches to the bridge, which were completed in 2008. After both approaches are complete, a new contract will be let for tying U.S. 82 into the approaches, paving the bridge and adding stripes; when that is finished, around Fall 2009, the bridge will open to traffic.
