(1996)O Descobrimento do Brasil (Portuguese for The Discovery of Brazil) is the sixth studio album by Brazilian rock band Legião Urbana. Released in November 1993, it sold more than a half million copies and received a Double Platinum Certification by ABPD.[1]
O Descobrimento do Brasil received extremely mixed reviews at the time it was released, what made Renato Russo state on an interview:
It is very annoying to know that something that gave us so much work will be judged by a guy who listens to only two or three seconds of a song to say this or that. There was a review of O Descobrimento do Brasil that I have memorized, so ridiculous it was: "[T]he Brazil discovered by Legião Urbana [is] as disappointing as the corruption denouncements of the CPI." Gosh! There was a lady who said: "The lyrics are incoherent, senseless, like in 'Meu tornozelo coça por causa de mosquitos/Estou com cabelos molhados/Me sinto livre.'"[2] Geez, or this lady never took a shower, or she never went to the beach, or there are no mosquitoes in São Paulo.[3]
