- Rocky Mountain Showdown
The Rocky Mountain Showdown is an annual
American football college rivalry between the University of Colorado Buffaloes and theColorado State University Rams. The winner of the game receives the Centennial Cup. The series began in 1893 and played annually (with a few exceptions) until 1958. The series was resurrected in 1983 and played periodically until it was cemented as an annual rivalry in1995 . Until then it was a long series, rather than a rivalry, as CU has dominated the series, 58-19-2. The Colorado Buffaloes are in theBig 12 Conference , while the Colorado State Rams compete in theMountain West Conference .The game is usually played in
INVESCO Field at Mile High inDenver, Colorado , although the 2004 and 2005 games were played atFolsom Field in Boulder. In January 2006, CU and CSU agreed to a five year deal which will continue the game through 2010. Under the agreement, the game will be played in Denver at Invesco Field only in 2006, 2007 and 2008. In August, 2008 Colorado decided to host the game at Folsom Field in Boulder in 2009, giving Colorado State the opportunity to host the game at Hughes Stadium in Fort Collins in 2010..
