Following their review of parliamentary representation in
Tyne and Wear , theBoundary Commission for England has created this new seat of Sunderland Central.The constituency is formed from the following electoral wards:
*Barnes, Fulwell, Hendon, Millfield, Pallion, Ryhope, St Michael’s, St Peter’s and Southwick
As a consequence of the creation of this seat, the other Sunderland constituencies have been formed as Houghton and Sunderland South and Washington and Sunderland West. Sunderland North and Sunderland South have been abolished.

This new constituency of Sunderland Central will be fought for the first time at the next UK general election, which must be held before June 2010.
