Houghton and Sunderland South will be a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It will elect one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

Following their review of parliamentary representation in Tyne and Wear, Sunderland South is to be merged with elements of the existing Houghton and Washington East seat to create this new seat.

The following electoral wards have been used in the creation of Houghton and Sunderland South

*Copt Hill, Doxford, Hetton, Houghton, St Chad’s, Sandhill, Shiney Row, Silksworth.

Election results

This seat will be fought for the first time at the UK general election in 2009 or 2010.
