AFL Rising Star nominee 2002

Jason Cloke (born 6 May 1982) is an Australian rules footballer for Williamstown in the Victorian Football League. He previously played with the AFL's Collingwood Football Club.

Career

Jason Cloke was drafted to Collingwood under the father/son rule in the 2000 AFL Draft. His father David Cloke, had played over 100 matches for the Magpies. Collingwood won Cloke over Richmond, whom David played over 100 matches for throughout the 1970s and 1980s. In 2001 Cloke spent his first season at the Collingwood Football Club with VFL affiliate Williamstown alongside Eastern Rangers teammate Guy Richards.

Cloke's first appearance with Collingwood was during the 2002 Wizard Cup. He then opened his senior account in the second round of the 2002 season, against the West Coast Eagles at the MCG. In round 7 against the Western Bulldogs Cloke obtained 23 disposals, a career high. He swiftly made a name for himself, earning an AFL Rising Star nomination in his fifth match (round six against St Kilda at Colonial Stadium) and featured in a number of newspaper articles around Victoria.

Cloke was suspended for striking Adelaide Crow Tyson Edwards during the second term of the Preliminary Final, resulting in a broken nose. The case sparked much debate amongst the football public, and Cloke received a two-match ban after an unsuccessful appeal at the AFL Tribunal. In 2003 Cloke was demoted to Williamstown Seagulls at several times throughout the year. In the Preliminary Final against Port Adelaide, he was suspended a second time by Anthony Rocca for elbowing Port Adelaide's Brendan Lade. During 2004 and 2005, Cloke's career suffered and he sustained injuries.

In 2006, Cloke's Collingwood career ended. He was demoted from the 21st round against Carlton to play with the Seagulls. He was delisted along with brother Cameron at the season's end.

In December 2006, Cloke joined Bendigo Bombers in the VFL. He has rejoined Williamstown for the 2008 season.

Family

Cloke is the eldest son of Collingwood and Richmond footballer David Cloke, who played from 1974 before retiring in 1991. Cloke has two brothers currently on senior lists in the AFL, Travis and Cameron. His uncle (David's brother), Peter also played 28 games for Richmond from 1970.

On 4th January 2007 he married Nicole Dorward.
