Psychefunkapus was a Thrash Funk band from the San Francisco Bay Area that released two albums for Atlantic Records in the early nineties. They got their name from their love of psychedelic music and a reference to a Pfunk song warning the coming of the "Funkapus".

History

Psychefunkapus formed in San Geronimo Valley, California in 1986 and achieved an unprecedented rise to prominence in San Francisco clubs by 1988. The Deftones opened for Psychefunkapus as their first gig and artist such as Green Day and No Doubt have also opened for them. Psychefunkapus themselves opened for bands such as Pearl Jam, The Sugarcubes, Was/Not Was, Steel Pole Bathtub, The Beatnigs, Charlatans UK, and The Vandals. Their first, self-titled album featured a dual vocal lineup consisting of Gene Genie and Manny Martinez. Their second album, "Skin" featured only Manny Martinez on vocals.

During the recording of their albums they got to work with several artists in the studio like Bernie Worrell, Dick Dale, and Jerry Harrison. Dick Dale and Bernie Worrel both contributed tracks to several songs on the album.
