- Yellowcraigs
Yellowcraigs, less commonly known as Broad Sands Bay, is a coastal area of forest, beach and grassland in
East Lothian , south-eastScotland . Yellowcraigs is designated as aLocal Nature Reserve and aSite of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It is bordered to the north by theFirth of Forth , to the south by the village ofDirleton andDirleton Castle , to the east by theNorth Berwick West Links golf course, and to the west by theArcherfield Estate and Links golf courses.Access to Yellowcraigs is by the A198 coastal route through Dirleton. A visitor car park lies convert|270|m|yd south of the beach, for which there is a small charge during summer months. The area includes information displays, a barbecue area and a woodland adventure playpark.
Yellowcraigs is part of the
John Muir Way , a convert|73|km|milong distance footpath betweenFisherrow ,Musselburgh andDunglass , named in honour of theconservationist John Muir , who was born inDunbar . In the series of leaflets on the John Muir Way, Yellowcraigs features in the leaflet "Aberlady toNorth Berwick ". The John Muir Way is part of theNorth Sea Trail , a network of paths in seven countries and 26 areas around theNorth Sea .The island of
Fidra , reputedly the inspiration forRobert Louis Stevenson 's "Treasure Island ", lies just to the north-west and is anRSPB nature reserve.
