Potton United F.C. is a football club based at Potton, Bedfordshire England. The town of Potton is famous for its disused railway station, sited on the Varsity Line between Cambridge and Oxford via Bedford and Bletchley.

History

Potton United was somewhat unusual in being a permanent club which was formed during wartime, in 1943. When peace broke out, the Royals applied to join the South Midlands League, where they stayed until 1955. In that year they sought a higher standard of football in the London-based Parthenon League, but were rejected. After a season in limbo, they joined the Central Alliance League Division One (South), before finally joining the United Counties League in 1961.

Potton were in the First Division for the 1972/73 season when it was renamed the Premier Division, and remained until 2002, when after their third consecutive poor season they were relegated. A storming campaign saw the Royals winning the Division One title in 2004 with eighty points, scoring at about three goals a game. They carried on the good work in the Premier League, finishing runners-up in their first two seasons back and scoring over ninety goals in their first three seasons, while making two trips to Round Four of the FA Vase.

In the 2008/09 season, Potton United F.C. are playing in the Eagle Bitter United Counties Football League Premier Division, led by manager Dean Shipp, who will be looking to return the club to the top places in the table.
