[ [http://www.spokaneairports.net/faq.htm Spokane International Airport: Frequently Asked Questions] ]Fairchild Air Force Base is located just four miles to the west.Growth and expansion
Due to the rapid growth of the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area and increased passenger volumes at the airport as a result, the airport is looking to add more direct flights to cities on the east coast like
Atlanta ,Washington, DC ,Detroit , andCincinnati because those cities have direct connections to Central andSouth America as well asEurope andAfrica . [ [http://www.spokanejournal.com/spokane_id=article&sub=3368:Passenger levels at SIA take off] ]There is currently a plan in place for future expansion of the airport as it continues to grow in passenger volume. [ [http://www.spokaneairports.net/MasterPlan.htm Spokane International Airport: Twenty-year Master Plan Update] ] Big components of the master plan include extending the main runway, adding a third runway, and expanding Concourse C with more gates.
A new control tower has been built south of the airport, replacing the old one located near Concourse C. Currently, the new control tower is the tallest control tower in the State of Washington. Another project, recently completed, was the Terminal, Rotunda, and Concourse C Enhancement Project (TRACE). [ [http://www.spokaneairports.net/4-26-06.htm Spokane International Airport: Terminal, Rotunda, and Concourse C Enhancement Project] ] The project, which concluded in November 2006, added retail space and expanded the security checkpoints in the airport's three concourses, and gave the Rotunda an aesthetic renovation.
