Moeed Pirzada

Moeed Pirzada (Urdu: پیرزاده‎ معيد) is a Pakistani political commentator and TV journalist.[1][2][3][4] He is currently working as Director World Affairs and lead anchor person for Dunya News-TV channel[5] and hosts a popular political talk show Dunya Today,[6] a program that also discusses social and educational issues with leading politicians, analysts and policy makers. He has also been a columnist for Dubai based regional paper Khaleej Times.[7][8] His columns have also appeared in Pakistani papers like Dawn (newspaper),[9] The News, The Daily Times[10][11] and Friday Times Many of such columns had been reproduced in regional websites like Chowk.com[12] and blogs.[13] He has widely spoken in national and international conferences, seminars and policy workshops and is a member of the Prime Minister's Education Task Force[14] that collaborated with British Council to produce the Next Generation Report.[15][16] He has also contributed policy papers to Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI).[17][18]

Early life

Moeed Pirzada was born in Rawalpindi city, near Islamabad in 1967. His father Dr Pirzada GM Din and mother Najma Gani were both immigrants from Srinagar, in the Indian Kashmir. His early childhood was spent in Mirpur, Pakistani or Pakistan Administered Kashmir (also called Azad Jammu & Kashmir), where his father, an Army doctor later established his thriving private practice.

Career

Pirzada qualified as a medical practitioner but did not follow medicine as a career, instead choosing to join the Central Superior Services of Pakistan in 1990, in the 18th Common Training Program (CTP)in the Customs and Excise department. He served in different parts of Pakistan as Assistant Collector and Deputy Collector for Customs(1992–2000). But he then again changed his career track when in 2000, he left the Civil Services to study first at School of International & Public Affairs, (SIPA) Columbia University, New York and later at the London School of Economics (LSE, 2003) and created an altogether new career when he joined an Asian TV channel, Ptv Prime,as an Anchor person, in London in 2005. He later worked, in London, UK, with another Asian television network, ARY TV, as its first Editor World Affairs for Europe. In 2007 he came back to Pakistan as Head of International Desk for GEO TV Network. In December 2008 he joined Dunya News when it was launched [19].
