"Do What You Feel" is the first single from American pop singer Khanoda released from his 1988 debut album, "Khanoda".

ong history

"Do What You Feel" was written by Khanoda when he was 13. He recorded a demo of the song in 1987 along with another track, “That’s What I Call Love”, which was also re-recorded for his first album "Khanoda," in a basement of a record store in South Philadelphia where he frequently haunted. The demo was engineered and mixed by local songwriter and producer, Anthony Newett, whom Khanoda would later work with on the songs “Say A Prayer”, “Something To Shout About”, and “That’s My Desire.” The demo eventually reached the hands of German producer Hugo Salvatore who, along with his partner James St. Vincent, saw the potential in “Do What You Feel” and flew Khanoda over to Germany to re-record the song. “Do What You Feel” was released in May 1988 as a 12” single in both the United States and Europe on TSR Records, a dance label based in California. The single went virtually unnoticed in the US however it was a favorite amongst club DJs in Germany. Despite its moderate success in nightclubs, “Do What You Feel” failed to make an impact on the charts. In October 1988, Salvatore and St. Vincent, who owned the rights to Khanoda’s sound recordings re-issued the single with a new edit of “Feel” along with the ballad “October” as its B-Side to coincide with the release of Khanoda’s eponymous debut that same month. Khanoda, however, had abandoned the project early on due to creative differences between himself and Salvatore and St. Vincent. The single, as well as the album, never took off.

In 1998 Khanoda gained the rights to the sound recordings from his first album and reproduced and remixed a new version of “Do What You Feel” (also known as “Do What You Feel ‘98”) which he included on both the US and EU versions of his album, Klosure, a mock hits collection of songs he recorded from 1988 – 1998. The track faired far better the second time around when in January 2006, the US version of Klosure had sold over 100,000 copies and critics and fans alike claim “Do What You Feel” as one of their favorite songs.
