Notable_instruments =The Fugitives were a mid-1960s
garage rock band from Sacramento. The band's first big success was at the 1964 Surfer's Convention at the State Fairgrounds when they set the attendance record for Sacramento rock and roll shows.Fact|date=June 2007 The Fugitives opened for many famous acts, includingThe Rolling Stones ,The Kinks ,The Beau Brummels andPaul Revere and the Raiders .After a number of personnel changes (lead singer and both guitarists), the band's style had changed to
popular-rock , and they headed to Los Angeles. They recorded nine songs atWestern Recorders (as The Grimfacqles) withthe Beach Boys engineer,Chuck Britz . Three songs from that session "Another Time, Some Other Day",and "Los Angeles"( later recorded by BYRDGene Clark )and "She Said" compositions by Alan Purdy and Laramy Smith,were believed to have hit potential.Who|date=July 2007 The band's manager, Dan Steward, tried to interest a major label in the Western sessions but was met with indifference because of his inflated ego. Those recordings subsequently disappeared and have remained lost despite several research attempts to find them.The band later returned to Los Angeles to appear on the "
Hollywood A Go-Go " TV show. The band re-organized and were a wildly popular part of the Davis-Sacramento music scene, playingcover versions of The Beatles and other top rock groups, before finally breaking up in late 1966. Laramy Smith moved on and released a record on ATCO produced by David Briggs,Neal Youngs producer. Laramy then produced "Los Angeles" for X-BYRD, Gene Clark. A&M 1998 album title 'Flying High".In 1974 Laramy moved on to Europe where,for 26 years toured 16 countries and realeased recordings on Columbia and EMI records.Laramy will release a new album on Tune Core August 2008.An early 2-track recording of The Fugitives' high-energy "Blowin' My Mind", written by the group's Laramy Smith and Allen Purdy and recorded in Sacramento at Bill Rase/Ikon Studios and egineerd by Paul McCartney's producer Eirik Wangberg, appears on the CD "The Sound of Young Sacramento", a compilation put together by Alec Paleo for London, England Ace Record subsidiary, Big Beat Records. On May 11, 2007, the Sacramento Archives and Museum Collection Center (SAMCC) released a 45rpm vinyl record of four songs by four '60s-era Sacramento area bands for their exhibit "Hearing our History". The Fugitives' "Blowin' My Mind" recording is one of the four tracks on the vinyl, which has photos of each band on the record jacket. Contemporary punk bands have embraced the song, performing their own versions.Fact|date=June 2007
