TFM Radio is a Thornaby-on-Tees based Independent Local Radio station. Launched in June 1975 as Radio Tees, with the callsign "You've got a friend on 257" it was the first independent local radio station serving the area of the Tees Valley with parts of North Yorkshire and County Durham.

Ownership

For a short time it was part of the Newcastle-upon-Tyne based Metro Radio group, before it was taken over by Bauer Radio. After the Metro Radio group was taken over, TFM, along with the other sister stations, was integrated into EMAP's Big City Network, and renamed 96.6 TFM to express the FM frequency which the station is broadcast on.In July 2007, TFM was rebranded TFM Radio and adopted the new slogan 'Today's Favourite Music'. TFM has been often been mistaken for the shorter name of "Tees FM" or "Teeside FM".

Present

The station broadcasts on the analogue frequency 96.6. DAB is provided by the EMAP Digital [http://www.emapdigitalradio.com/edr/m_teeside.shtml Teesside multiplex] . TFM Radio's live broadcast can also be listened to from the website.

Past

The station was the principal sponsor of The Darlington Arena. During the period of the sponsorship, the stadium was known as the TFM Radio Arena. The arena has a capacity of 25000 and plays host to Darlington Football Club's home fixtures.
