Urdu : پرویز ہودبھائی) (born11 July 1950 ) isProfessor ofHigh Energy Physics and the head of thePhysics Department [http://www.qau.edu.pk/profile.php?id=yLn9T] atQuaid-e-Azam University ,Islamabad ,Pakistan . He graduated and also received PhD fromMIT and continues to do research inParticle physics . He received the Baker Award for Electronics in 1968, and theAbdus Salam Prize forMathematics in 1984. He has authored various scientific research papers in peer-reviewed journals.Hoodbhoy is also a prominent environmental and
social activist and regularly writes on a wide range of social, cultural and environmental issues. He is the chairman of Mashal, anon-profit organization which publishesUrdu books onwomen's rights ,education , environmental issues,philosophy , and modern thought. Hoodbhoy gained his
Bachelor of Science inMathematics andElectrical Engineering , followed byM.S. in Solid-State Physics from theMassachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973. He went on to obtain a Ph.D. inNuclear Physics in 1978 from the same institution. Later, he remained a post-doctoral fellow at theUniversity of Washington . He has been a faculty member at the Quaid-e-Azam University since 1973. He is engaged in research onQuantum field theory , Particle Phenomenology, andSupersymmetry in Particle physics. He is avisiting professor atCarnegie Mellon University , MIT, theUniversity of Maryland, College Park , andStanford Linear Accelerator Center . He also occasionally lectures at various American and European research institutions. He is a sponsor of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.
