- IDisk
iDisk is a service offered by Apple to all
MobileMe members that enables them to store their digital photos, movies and personal files online so they can be accessed remotely. With a standard subscription, MobileMe users receive a 20 GB iDisk.iDisk integrates with
Mac OS X , appearing as a network drive mounted automatically on the desktop.Mac OS X v10.3 through v10.5 can cache updates to an iDisk volume while offline and synchronize updates later. AnyWebDAV client can also access an iDisk volume.iDisk was, until 2002, free for all Mac OS X users through iTools, a service that could be considered the ancestor of .Mac.
Folders
*The "Sites" folder of a MobileMe iDisk contains the files created by HomePage, the MobileMe online web authoring tool.
*The "Web" folder of a MobileMe iDisk contains the files created byiWeb , part of theiLife suite.
*The "Software" folder of a MobileMe iDisk contains .Mac exclusive software, such asGarageBand Jam Packs.
*The "Public" folder of a MobileMe iDisk can be used to host downloads.NOTE: This section will soon be updated with MobileMe information.
The "Public", "Sites" and "Web" folders are the only ones which can be accessed by people other than the iDisk owner, but the "Public" folder can be made password protected via the MobileMe
Preference Pane inMac OS X .Backup application
Included with iDisk in the
MobileMe bundle is Backup, a software utility that allows users to back up local files to an iDisk. The software can also be used to restore files from the iDisk, or any other drive/location selected in the backup app.See also
