The Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library (HAM-TMC Library) is an academic health science library located at 1133 John Freeman Blvd in the Texas Medical Center in Houston.
History
The Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library began in 1949 when two existing medical libraries (Houston Academy of Medicine and Baylor College of Medicine) combined their collections in order to better serve the physicians in Harris County and the teaching and research programs of the Baylor College of Medicine.
Baylor brought almost 16,000 volumes and the Houston Academy of Medicine brought nearly 18,000 volumes to the 1949 merger. In 1954, the Library moved from the Roy and Lillie Cullen Building of the Baylor College of Medicine into the new Jesse H. Jones Library Building. Consequently, many mistakenly refer to HAM-TMC as the "Jesse Jones Library".
Consortial memberships
Since 1991, the Library serves as the Regional Medical Library (RML) for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine South Central Region (NN/LM SCR); one of eight RMLs in the US. The NN/LM SCR serves the five state region of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
The Library is also a member of the Texas Health Science Libraries Consortium (THSLC), a group of six health science libraries in the Houston/Galveston area. The other THSLC members include the UT School of Public Health Library, UT Psychiatry Library, UT Dental Branch Library, UT Medical Branch Library, and the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Medical Library. The six consortium libraries book, journal, AV, and online resources have been combined into a single online catalog, Voyager (library program), from Endeavor.
