- Hospital Radio Ipswich
Hospital Radio Ipswich is a closed loop radio station broadcasting to the patients of the
Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust , andSt. Elizabeth's Hospice . It broadcasts a wide range of music ranging from Classical, through to Big Band Music, and generalPop Music .Many of the programmes it broadcasts are request based, with volunteers going round the hospital, chatting to patients, and collecting requests that they can hear later that day, or later in the week.
On of the more popular programmes is its children's programme "The Tiger Club" which has been on air for over 20 years as of
2006 . It was named by the listeners when it first went on air, after John "Tiger" Louis a speedway rider for theIpswich Witches .Many professional radio presenters started their careers at Hospital Radio Ipswich. The most well known is now a BBC television reporter on world current affiars, but HRI is as proud of its charitable work as it is of its individual personalities, past and present.
HRI, which is run entirely by
