Kurtis Foster was selected in the 2nd round, 40th overall, in the
2000 NHL Entry Draft by theCalgary Flames .On
December 18 ,2001 , Foster was traded by Calgary withJeff Cowan to theAtlanta Thrashers forPetr Buzek .On
June 26 ,2004 , Foster was traded to theMighty Ducks of Anaheim forNiclas Hävelid .On
August 4 ,2005 , Foster signed as a free agent with theMinnesota Wild . He started the season in Houston of the AHL, but after a hot start, got called up and played his first NHL game of the year onNovember 19 , 2005. He scored his first 2 goals of his young career that game againstTomáš Vokoun . OnMarch 20 , 2008 Foster had season-ending surgery to repair his broken left femur and will miss the remainder of the season and postseason. San Jose centerTorrey Mitchell pushed Foster into the bottom of the boards, inadvertently breaking Fosters leg. It is unclear as to whether it was deliberate, however the NHL ruled that it was accidental. Mitchell received a two minute minor penalty on the play. Whether Foster will be completely healthy for the return of the 2008–2009 season remains uncertain.Awards
