Zhambyl also borders three other provinces:Karagandy Province ,South Kazakhstan Province , andAlmaty Province . The total area is 144,200 square kilometers. The province bordersLake Balkhash to its northeast. The province (and its capital during theSoviet era ) was named after the Kazakh "akyn " (folk singer),Zhambyl Zhabaev .Major cities
