Hisense

Hisense (海信) is a Chinese electronics manufacturer. The company's origins started in 1969 when Hisense was known as Qingdao No. 2 Radio Factory. The company started with a workforce of 10 people. The company's products include televisions, air conditioners, LCDs, refrigerators and mobile phones. Hisense is an electronics and information industry unit within Hisense Company Limited. It operates in the areas of household appliances, telecommunication, information systems, real estate and commerce.

Hisense has established more than 20 companies in Mainland China and abroad with net assets totaling $752 Million. Hisense has an annual production capacity of:
10 million colour TVs
3 million air-conditioners
4 million CDMA phones
1.6 million refrigerators
1 million computers

The sales revenue for 2005 was $4.2 billion, putting Hisense among the top 100 Chinese electronics manufacturers.

In 2005, Hisense participated in constituting 3 international standards, 53 national and industrial technology standards. It has applied for 437 patents and 38 national research and industry planning programs. At present, Hisense has over 200 sales companies and more than 10000 service outlets across China. Over the world, Hisense has production bases in South Africa, Hungary, France, Pakistan, Algeria, Iran and sales offices in the U.S.A., Europe, Australia, and Japan. The products are exported to about 100 countries and regions including Europe, America, South Asia, and Africa.

History

*In 1970, The superhet "Red Light" brand 501 transistor radio was successfully developed. Later that year the factory developed the first 14" vacuum tube TV set in Shandong province, which filled the void of Shandong province in this market.
*In 1976, a 9" plastic cabinet black & white TV was developed. Later that year a 12" wood and plastic combo-cabinet transistor TV was successfully developed.
*In 1978, the CJD18 model color TV was produced.
*In 1979, Qingdao Television Factory was established and the factory became a state-designated TV manufacturer.
*In 1980 56CD1 model 22" auto-convergence color TV was produced.
*In 1982, the factory completed its relocation from No. 22 Guangxi Road to No. 11 Jiangxi Road.
*In 1984, the first 14" color TV set based on Matsushita technology rolled down the production line.
*In 1992, Mr. Zhou Houjian was appointed the director of Qingdao Television Factory. He was 35 years of age at the time. Soon after, the factory took off and entered a period of rapid growth.
*In March 1993, Hisense invested 20 million RMB to produce POS and soon became the largest POS manufacturer in China.
*In 1994, Hisense Company Limited was established.
*In July 1995, Hisense Research Institute expanded into the Hisense R&D Center , which was approved as a state-level technological centre.
*In April 1997, Hisense Electrical Appliance went public. In 1998, Hisense ranked No. 7 among the top 100 China electronics enterprises.
*In 1999, Hisense Group Customers Service Center started operating.
*In 2000, Hisense Digital Technology Co., Ltd. was established.
*In September 2000, Hisense signed a cooperation agreement with Hitachi for the production of CDMA handsets. The two parties joined hands in the 3G digital mobile communication field.
*In 2001, Construction of Hisense Tower and Hisense Information Industrial Park were completed. The Hisense operations were substantially improved.
*On January 10, 2002, Hisense, Stone, Sunshine and Sina announced they were to form the ITV strategic alliance.
*In February 2002, Hisense Group implemented the TPI/TPM system and engaged in overall operation innovation.
*In May 2002, Hisense became a shareholder in Beijing Snowflake and established a professional refrigerator production base.
*On July 30, 2002, Hisense and Sumitomo established a joint venture to actively explore overseas marketing channels.
*On November 18, 2002, Hisense joined hands with Hitachi to tap commercial the air-conditioning market.
*On January 18, 2003, a groundbreaking ceremony for Hisense-Hitachi commercial air-conditioner production base was held in Hisense Information Industrial Park.
*In July 2003, two books - "The Saga of Hisense" and "Hisense Experience" were published.
*In 2003, chairman Zhou Houjian was elected the deputy of the 10th National People's Congress during the 6th meeting of the 9th Shandong Provincial People's Congress.
*On June 28, 2004, Hisense Guiyang Industrial Park started formal operations.
*On August 21, 2004, Hisense Research Institute in Shandong University was established.
*On 12th May 2008, it was announced that Vodafone Arena in Melbourne, Australia was to be renamed Hisense Arena from July 2008.
