The SM42 was the first Polish
diesel locomotive .Introduction
The technical documentation for this locomotive was produced in
1961 at the "Poznań Research Centre for Rail Vehicles", and the production was given over to the "Chrzanów Locomotive Factory (Fablok )". The prototype was ready in 1964 and initially was tested inWarsaw .In1967 and later, these locomotives were supplied toLegnica ,Piotrków ,Oleśnica ,Wrocław ,Szczakowa ,Tarnowskie Góry andGdańsk .Later modifications
In
1972 , a new version (6D/M) was developed especially for Marocan railways (ONCFM). 37 were delivered as class DG 200.Some locomotives were moved into passenger service and reclassified
PKP class SP42 .Nicknames
