Goa, Daman and Diu

Goa, Daman and Diu

Goa, Daman, and Diu was a former union territory of India from 1962 to 1987. The union territory comprised the present-day state of Goa and the two small coastal enclaves of Daman and Diu on the coast of Gujarat. The territory, along with Dadra and Nagar Haveli, formerly comprised Portuguese India. The territory was liberated from colonial Portuguese rule in 1961, though their incorporation into India wasn't recognized by Portugal until 1975. Administratively the territory was divided into three districts, Goa, Daman, and Diu with the capital at Panaji. In 1987 Goa was granted statehood, and Daman and Diu was made a separate union territory. [ [http://www.goavidhansabha.gov.in/addinfo11.php Goa Vidhan Sabha] ]
