antebellum house, built between 1845-50, that featuresGreek Revival architecture dating from the 1840s. It is located on convert|6|acre|m2 in the heart of Old Elyton, the first county seat ofJefferson County, Alabama . The house was built by William S. Mudd, one of the founders of Birmingham.Arlington was the site where Union troops planned the burning of the
University of Alabama . The house serves also as a decorative arts museum, featuring a collection of 19th-century furniture, textiles, silver, and paintings. Arlington has gardens and a restored garden room named the Tea Room that is used for private and club events such as weddings, meetings, and food-service events.The ashes of former mayor
