April 22 ,1982 in Charlesbourg,Quebec ,Canada ) is a Canadianice hockey defenceman. He is the son of Alain Côté.Jean-Phillippe is currently a free agent after being released by the
National Hockey League 'sMontreal Canadiens at the end of the 2007/2008 season. He was drafted by theToronto Maple Leafs in the2000 NHL Entry Draft , but never appeared in a game for them.He played his first game in the NHL on November 29th, 2005, against the Ottawa Senators to fill in for the suspended
Andrei Markov . He finished the night with 13 minutes of ice time, one penalty, and a -1.Habs fans had not, however, seen the last of J-P Cote. Another injury to
Andrei Markov forced him to play a regular shift, and this time there would be no reduced ice time. He often played with fellow 24-year-old bluelinerMike Komisarek , and the pair formed a very solid and hard-working duo of defensive defensemen. He would again return to the AHL with the return of Andrei Markov. He played the whole 2006–2007 season with the
Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL, with the Montreal Canadiens already having 8 defencemen in their line-up.He had a professional tryout contract with the
National Hockey League 'sColorado Avalanche for the beginning of the 2008/2009 season, but was released from this on september 24. 2008.
