Lemon chicken

Lemon chicken (Zh-t|; pinyin: níng méng jī) is the name of several dishes found in cuisines around the world, all of which feature chicken and lemon.

In Canadian Chinese cuisine it usually consists of pieces of chicken meat that are sautéed or deep-fried and coated with a thick, sweet lemon-flavored sauce.

A version of lemon chicken popular in Australia involves crumbing larger pieces of chicken, basting with lemon juice and oven baking them. Another method popular in Australia involves coating the chicken in batter, frying it, and then covering with a lemon sauce.

Yet another version is from Italy and is called "pollo al limone". In this dish, a whole chicken is roasted with white wine, fresh lemon juice, fresh thyme and mirepoix.

Trivia

On the CBS television sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond", lemon chicken is one of the few dishes that Ray finds appealing when prepared by Debra. It is also one of the few dishes that Debra actually knows how to cook and often cooks.
